Driveway block paving has become a firm favourite with home owners over recent years. It is low maintenance and cost effective whilst offering you a huge range of different styles, colours and patterns to choose from. Gilbert-Scape have many years’ experience installing block paving drives in Ramsey, Huntingdon and across Cambridgeshire.

At Gilbert-Scape we understand the importance of a solid foundation for your driveway. Only a quality foundation and installation will allow your driveway to last for years to come and prevent sinking blocks and drifting kerb restraints.

For this reason we take care to excavate down to a sufficient depth (of around 300mm) and install a heavy-duty Geo-textile membrane to stop any of the sub-soil mixing with the base layer of the drive, which can lead to weakening of the foundations. We then incorporate and compact a good layer of Type 1 MOT hardcore, followed by a second layer of finer hardcore, which together gives the foundation its strength.

We will also make sure rain water run-off is taken care of , and draw up a ‘SUDS’ assessment, which will eliminate the need for planning permission. We use the pre-fabricated Aquavoid system which allows rainwater to be temporarily stored and then released gradually into a soak-away and the soil.

Your choice of kerb stones will be used to define the edges of the driveway, and add strength and rigidity to the finished surface. They are always laid on a solid concrete foundation to provide a robust edge that retains the paving.

There is a huge variety these days of finished surface product, with a diversity of shapes, sizes, colours and textures now available. Not to mention, different aspects that can be created or overcome by treating with a sealing and jointing sand stabiliser, which will not only keep the paving much cleaner but will also help eliminate weed growth.
